Question by Avocado: What are some major athletes that use holistic/natural/alternative medicine?
If you can give me any that live in the Cleveland area, or at least in Ohio, that would be even MORE beneficial. And you would probably get ten points for that specification.

The previous reviewer got it all wrong, this is an excellent book!

Regarding the lack of controlled clinical trials, of course they’re lacking. These substances are not patentable. Drug companies cannot bottle them and charge 9 bucks a pill, so the trials will not be forth coming anytime soon!

I’ve purchased the book, and tried almost every supplement reviewed, and have found some real gems. Quite a few of the herbs I’d never heard of before, even though I’ve been experimenting with natural supplements for years.

I like the authors approach, because he’s conservative on his dosage recommendations, he does not make wild, outlandish claims about these supplements, and he readily admits when clinical trails are lacking.

What else could you ask for ?

If you’re looking for a boost in the libido department, I think you’ll be happy with this book.

    Master Hahn (United States) –
This review is from: Natural Sex Boosters: Supplements That Enhance Stamina, Sensation, and Sexuality for Men and Women (Paperback)

Primarily this book simply proves that most of these compounds do NOT work – and what little advance is detected is likely due to a mild placebo effect. Pretty much each chapter (covering a separate substance) is the same. It starts out with a disclaimer that “there have been no human trials” on this substance (and in most cases no animal trials either… and where trials were conducted, massive doses were used or no measurable changes were detected – and in most cases the ones conducting the “study” (which is never fully cited of course)are clearly biased due to their involvement in promoting the product (like most Maca “research” is done by Peruvian government funded researchers who have a bias towards creating a new – and high income – cash crop for Peru’s agriculture business.

The rest of the author’s “examination of the substances” consist of two parts. First, he takes the product himself – sometimes just for one day! – and the reports what he noticed “different”. No double-blind, placebo controlled testing, no blood testing of hormone levels, etc., etc. And then he concludes by throwing in one or two anecdotal reports from one of his patients as to the positive effect they supposedly had with this substance. Also he marginalizes the cost factor of taking the much, much larger amounts of some of these compounds that need to be taken to achieve the “supposed effect”.

One having hormonal-deficient sexual problems (libido, ED, etc.) would be much better off (including financially) to get their hormone tested and then – if necessary go on a hormone replacement therapy (HRT) program using NATURAL bio-identical hormones as needed!

Would not waste my money on this book. This author has this same type of junk scattered across the Internet – and is just as foolish in his other “scientific reporting”.
